ROM visit

I haven't been to the ROM since the diamond exhibition sponsored by De Beers two years ago (I think that alone can tell you what direction they were heading...). Long story short, the exhibition was nothing but a gigantic mess focusing on how to determine what "good" diamonds meant and completely omitting the reality of the blood diamond industry (as expected). As a result, I was less than thrilled to see the last few ones. To my surprise, last night's visit was quite interesting. Not only did I finally get to see the Terracotta Warriors exhibition but also El Anatsui: When I Last Wrote To You About Africa. The exhibit was refreshing and the works unique. His work primarily consist of found objects. I would be really interested to see his metal pieces as installation pieces outside of the museum context. I think it would really challenge the way we understand it in relation to his other works and how it stands alone. His work also reflected hints of Klimt, one of my absolute favourite artist.

Lanvin for H&M

Everyone's been raving about the next upcoming designer project from H&M which is the Lanvin collaboration. The lookbook was officially release on the H&M site Wednesday but much have already been seen prior to that (ah the power of internet!). I'm not sure I'm feeling all this buzz and hype surrounding it. I mean, there are pieces here and there (my favourite being the two floral dresses) but aside from that, nothing seems to jump out. It almost seems too familiar. As well, I am almost certain I'll be setting myself up for disappointment in terms of quality (especially for that price range) given my experiences with past H&M collaborations (ie. Jimmy Choo, Matthew Williamson, Comme Des Garcons). I think I'd be much happier saving that money and putting towards something else.

Nature's first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf's a flower;

But only so an hour.

Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
For nothing gold can stay.

Nothing Gold Can Stay - Robert Frost

Checking in.

Just to make everything simpler and in sync with all my other stuff, I had to re-create a new blog with my primary e-mail. I'm going to commit at least updating this once or twice a week.
